Our History
The Beginning
The Key began on December 6, 1960 by the women of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Cazenovia, NY. Articles were brought in and sold in the parish hall on Sundays. As the project expanded, The Key was relocated to the first of five buildings it would come to occupy in the village of Cazenovia. Its current location at 66 Albany Street has proved to be a glorious move.
Our Mission
Mission statement: To promote and maintain an outreach service ministry. To utilize the revenue generated for the benefit of the local community. To foster volunteerism of individuals and groups. This giving ministry will serve as a positive example of our faith. The Key is a ministry of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.
The Key of St Peter's main goal is to make sure that every single customer leaves happier than when they came in!
With prices on the rise, The Key stands by our low priced clothing & housewares, in hopes that no matter who you are, or where you come from, that you can find a treasured item for a low price.
The Key relies on the help of volunteers, mainly in the summer months. These volunteers are typically high school students from Cazenovia High School looking to fulfill their volunteer hours. With that said, we make sure that each high school volunteer leaves with valuable knowledge such as life skills that they can carry with them in the future. (A resume starter was created by Caroline Vagnone, The Director of The Key, that lists all tasks that are fulfilled by each student. )
Seasonal consignments are brought in during store hours, as well as seasonal donations. Consignments vary per week, which is judged by the amount of items sold, and there is always a 5 item limit per consigner. The store voicemail is updated every Saturday at 3PM and an email blast is sent out to all active consigners, letting them know what we will be taking the following week.
The Key has gained a large Instagram following, with a total of 1,085 followers. We make sure to post every week, as a main draw to the store comes from our Instagram account. Our Facebook page has also gained a following, with an average of 12 likes a month (934 page likes total) We also make sure to post what we are accepting for consignments on our social media accounts.
Throughout the summer, we will be having a $1 sidewalk sale!(weather permitting) that will include menswear, womenswear, and childrenswear clothing.
We hope to see you soon, come stop in & say hi!

Community Support
The Key of St. Peter’s is humbled to be able to support local organizations whose missions align with our own. As a store which exists to help alleviate suffering in the community, we will prioritize those requests which also focus on basic human needs. This includes but is not limited to safety, shelter, food, and clothing.
Our grants usually range from $250-$5000 and are made at the sole discretion of the grants committee, the Key Board, and St. Peter’s Vestry. We very much appreciate your generosity and willingness to support The Key and our ability to provide grants to organizations such as Vera House and Caz Cares with revenues, especially from donations.
